Managing a business

Small businesses operating in Australia are increasing, and more women are becoming involved in operating small business according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.  In June 2006, 32% of small business operators were women.

The web site business.gov.au provides access to all the government information, transactions and services you need - so they say on the front page. For some mysterious reason, they are using Flash, so if you are like me, you will opt for the ‘text only pages' which makes for boring boring reading.

By the way, their ‘grant finder' page isn't quite as useful as the Parliamentary Library's page A Guide to Community Grants.

Another useful resource, if you can find it in your local Library, is a book called Working Relations: managing effective working relationships by Georgina Birchall & Jenni Colwill (Longmans are the publishers).

Many rural women find themselves running small businesses.  If this is you, check out the  Foundation for Australian Agricultural Women web site, which provides some useful leadership training and resources for rural women.
